Neighborhood Safety Notice:
We are sharing the below information on behalf of the Columbus Division of Police for a crime that occurred in the off-campus area.
On 8/19/18, at approximately 3:54 a.m., the Columbus Division of Police responded to the area of E. 14th Avenue and High Street on the report of a Robbery that had just occurred. A female Ohio State student reported that she was approached by an unknown male that struck her in the face, took her purse and ran north bound on Pearl Street. Reports indicate that no weapon was shown.
The suspect is described as a black male, between the ages of 18 and 28, standing approximately 5'8" tall and weighing 180 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a red, white and blue jersey and is believed to have fled away from campus.
The Columbus Division of Police is actively investigating and encourages anyone with information related to this crime to call CPD at 614-645-4545 or Crime Stoppers at 614-645-8477 (TIPS). Law enforcement will have extra patrols in the area.
Crimes are never the fault of the victim. The Ohio State University Police Division encourages everyone to lock doors and windows. Student Life’s Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services provides free window and door alarms and safety timers for students. Please follow these safety tips to enhance your overall safety:
- When possible, walk with friends or coworkers
- Always be aware of your surroundings, especially at night.
- Use transportation services such as the Campus Area Bus Service (CABS) or our Student Safety Service Safe Ride program, which operates from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on our Columbus campus.
