Honoring Service and Sacrifice

The Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD) gathered for a memorial service to honor those who have served and to rededicate the garden in front of Blankenship Hall to OSUPD Officer Michael Blankenship, who was killed in the line of duty in1997.

“We’re proud to remember Officer Michael Blankenship and all those who lost their lives in service,” said OSUPD Chief Dennis Jeffrey. “We want to make sure we continue to honor them and show our respect for all they sacrificed for our community.”

Following the invocation from Father Leo Connolly, Chaplain for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Associate Vice President of Public Safety Monica Moll shared remarks, recognizing the importance of the memorial and the lasting legacy of Officer Blankenship. Chris Kabourek, senior vice president of Administration and Planning (A&P) spoke on the role of public safety in campus life. Retired OSUPD Officer Anna Stephenson gave powerful remarks that spoke to the deep bond shared by law enforcement personnel.

The dedication not only honored Officer Blankenship, whose memory continues to inspire, but also served as a reminder of the courage and commitment shown daily by those who protect and serve the Buckeye campus.
