Fall campus safety tips

Excitement is in the air as the Buckeyes prepare to host Youngstown State on Saturday at Ohio Stadium. While the football game kicks off at Noon, the university expects fans and visitors to arrive early and stay late.

Whether watching the game on campus, or at home, all Buckeyes are encouraged to be the Best Fans in the Land and keep safety in mind.

  • Use the free Rave Guardian app when traveling and avoid walking alone, especially at night.
  • Free personal safety alarms and safety devices for your home are available at the Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement office (third floor of the Ohio Union), which is open until 5 p.m. today.
  • Travel in groups or use public transportation like the free CABS West Campus shuttles.
  • Students traveling in the University District can book discounted rides via Lyft Ride Smart at Ohio State.
  • Use crosswalks and follow directions of law enforcement or traffic control officers.
  • Do not let unknown people into residence halls or off-campus homes.
  • Lock doors and windows and keep outside lights on.
  • Remain aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity to police.

More safety resources are available on the public safety website.

On campus police reports can be made by calling 614-292-2121. Off-campus, call Columbus Police at 614-645-4545. Always dial 9-1-1 in emergencies.

Fans coming to the stadium should plan ahead and allow extra time to travel. All fans are encouraged to load admission tickets into their Apple or Google wallet before arriving to the stadium.
