We are sharing the below information on behalf of the Columbus Division of Police regarding crimes that occurred in the off-campus area.
On 3/1/2021, around 8:30 p.m., two separate robberies occurred simultaneously, both in the area of E 16th Avenue and Indianola Avenue. Police believe these crimes to be two different incidents with two separate suspects and two different victims. In both instances, male Ohio State students were walking alone when approached from behind by an unknown male. When the victims turned around, they each encountered a lone suspect who demanded their cell phones, wallets and other personal belongings. No weapons were observed and no threats of violence were made to either victim, but the suspects did steal their personal property. Reports indicate that the suspects fled the area together. No injuries have been reported.
Suspect details are limited. Anyone with information related to these crimes is encouraged to call the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4545.
Crimes are never the fault of the victim. The Ohio State University Police Division encourages everyone to lock doors and windows. When possible, please walk with friends or coworkers and always be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. If you see something, say something: report suspicious behavior by calling police.
