Neighborhood Safety Notice - January 30, 2021

We are sharing the below information on behalf of the Columbus Division of Police for a crime that occurred in the off-campus area.

On 1/29/2021, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Columbus Division of Police responded to the report of a stolen vehicle on 8th Avenue just west of High Street. The victim, a male Ohio State student, stated that he was getting out of his vehicle when he was approached by two suspects, a male and a female. Reports indicate that the male suspect displayed a handgun and that the suspects threw the victim’s backpack to the ground before stealing his car. No injuries were reported.

Both suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks so additional details are limited. Please be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle – a silver Nissan Altima with Ohio plate “HUL6163.” Anyone with information related to this crime is encouraged to call the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4545.

Crimes are never the fault of the victim. The Ohio State University Police Division encourages everyone to lock doors and windows. When possible, please walk with friends or coworkers and always be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. If you see something, say something: report suspicious behavior by calling police.
