Neighborhood Safety Notice:

We are sharing the below information on behalf of the Columbus Division of Police for a crime that occurred in the off-campus area.

Two armed robberies occurred on Sunday (11/25/18) in the off-campus area near Chittenden Avenue and Pearl Street. Information about the first crime was shared on social media by Ohio State’s Emergency Management division. Due to a second crime occurring, similar in nature, we are sending a Neighborhood Safety Notice to make the campus aware of the crime trend.

The first incident took place at approximately 12:50 a.m. Two males not affiliated with Ohio State were approached by an unknown male in his mid-to-late 20’s dressed in a hooded sweatshirt. The suspect displayed a handgun and stole money and cell phones before fleeing.

The second incident took place at approximately 8 p.m. Two males, one an Ohio State student, were approached by two unknown males in their 20’s and threatened at gunpoint. The suspects stole money and fled eastbound. No injuries were reported.

Suspect details are limited in both incidents. The Columbus Division of Police is actively investigating and encourages anyone with information related to this crime to call CPD at 614-645-4881 or Crime Stoppers at 614-645-8477 (TIPS).

Crimes are never the fault of the victim. The Ohio State University Police Division encourages everyone to lock doors and windows. When possible, please walk with friends or coworkers and always be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. Please utilize transportation services, when possible, and if you see something, say something: report suspicious behavior by calling police.
