Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. Record Request Form

Please use the below form to initiate a request for records from The Ohio State University Police Division. 

Attention: Beginning January 1, 2026, in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 149.43, a charge of $45.41 will be assessed for each hour of requested body worn video footage up to $750 total per video.

What can customers expect after they submit the request?
  • Generally, requests will be fulfilled in order of receipt and within a reasonable period of time.
  • If the request includes body-worn camera footage, you will receive an estimate of the actual cost within five business days. 
How long will it take to review the request (i.e. when should a customer anticipate hearing back on whether it is approved for processing)?
  • For body worn camera requests, an estimated cost will be provided within five business days. The actual records will then be processed within a reasonable period of time. 
How long will it take to process the request / share video files?
  • Requests for written records (traditional police reports) will be fulfilled within a reasonable period of time, generally within a few business days.
  • Fulfillment time for requests for body-worn camera footage will depend on pre-payment of actual costs by the requester, as well as total length of video and necessary redactions per Ohio’s public records laws. 
How will files be provided?
  • Files will be shared electronically via email unless the requester specifies a different copy medium. If a different copy medium is requested, then there may be a delivery and/or supply charge. 
What is the price to obtain video?
  • $45.41 / hour up to $750 total per video
Why are you charging a fee to obtain video?
  • Reviewing and redacting body-worn video footage can be a time-intensive process. Our records technicians thoroughly review footage to ensure compliance with Ohio’s public records laws and to protect the privacy of crime victims. 
Is there a price cap?
  • $750 total per video.
Does the length of video impact total price?
  • Yes, video requests are charged an hourly rate of $45.41 per hour. Requesters are encouraged to be as specific as possible in their request to reduce overall costs. (i.e. requesting only the primary/arresting officer’s perspective).
