Aubrey Timmons, Law Enforcement Officer
How long have you been with OSUPD?
I started with Ohio State's Department of Public Safety in July 2023 as a student employee in the Communications and Central Alarm Center. After graduating from Ohio State in 2024 with a degree in Criminology and a minor in Legal Foundations, I attended the Columbus Police Academy and was sworn in as an OSUPD officer in November 2025.
Where are you from, and how has that helped shape who you are today?
I grew up in the Central Ohio area and attended Olentangy Orange High School. Athletics played an important role in my upbringing, and some of my favorite memories come from being part of a team. Through sports, I learned the value of hard work, trust, and supporting the people around you. Those experiences helped shape my character and still influence me today.
What inspired you to become an OSUPD officer?
Working within the Department of Public Safety as a student gave me the opportunity to see the department from the inside and interact with officers on a daily basis. What stood out to me was how much emphasis was placed on teamwork and supporting one another in service of the campus community. Some of my best experiences growing up came from being part of a team, and I saw many of those same qualities within OSUPD. The strong sense of camaraderie and shared purpose made me want to be part of the department.
What's unique about policing at Ohio State?
No two days are ever the same, which is one of my favorite parts of the job. We interact with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and community members from all different backgrounds and experiences. What I enjoy most is the opportunity to connect with people. Many of our interactions involve listening, answering questions, and helping students navigate situations that may be new to them. That emphasis on education and relationship-building is one of the things that makes Ohio State unique.
Why do you serve?
Ohio State has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, from attending events on campus as a kid, to becoming a student, to working within the Department of Public Safety. Serving as an officer gives me the opportunity to be part of a community that has meant a great deal to me and my family over the years.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with friends and family, staying active, and playing rugby with the Columbus Women’s Rugby Club. I value the friendships I've built throughout different stages of my life and enjoy staying connected with friends I've known since childhood, as well as those I met and grew close with during my time at Ohio State. It has been rewarding to stay connected as we each begin our professional careers and experience new milestones.
What's your favorite thing about being a Buckeye?
My favorite thing about being a Buckeye is the sense of community and tradition that comes with it. Ohio State has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my family would come to campus for events like the Spring Game, Homecoming Parade, and Science Sundays. Both of my parents work at Ohio State. My older sister is an Ohio State graduate, and my younger sister is currently a student. For my family, Ohio State has always been more than just a university. It's been a constant throughout our lives and a place where we've made many great memories. As a graduate and now an officer, it means a lot to be able to give back to a community that has played such an important role in my life.
