The Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD) honored fallen peace officers and remembered the life and sacrifice of OSUPD Officer Michael Blankenship during a Peace Officer Memorial Day Ceremony on May 13, 2026.
“This week is truly about thanking not only our OSUPD officers, but also law enforcement nationwide for their sacrifice, commitment and dedication to keep their communities safe,” said OSUPD Chief Dennis Jeffrey.
Held at Blankenship Hall, the ceremony brought together officers, university leaders and members of Officer Blankenship’s family to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. The memorial included remarks honoring Officer Blankenship’s legacy, the playing of Taps and lowering of the American Flag in remembrance of fallen officers.
During the ceremony, OSUPD also announced its first ever Honor Guard, which presented a flower wreath as part of the memorial tribute.
