Behind the Badge Officer Rhodeback

Name? Rank?

Officer Karalyn Rhodeback

How long have you been with OSUPD?

Almost 4 years. I started June of 2022.

You were just named Officer of the Year. What does this award mean to you?

It is an honor. I work with a lot of amazing officers who should’ve also won the award. I appreciate the recognition.

Where are you from and how does that help shape who you are today?

I grew up in Mount Vernon, OH on a small farm. Growing up in a rural area really instilled hard work and a great sense of community.

What inspired you to become an OSUPD officer?

I’ve always been drawn to service-oriented careers that allow me to make a positive impact. A lot of my family members work in a career that directly helps the public, which I have admired. The opportunity to serve a diverse community was something I wanted. Working for OSUPD has been a blessing.

What’s unique about policing at Ohio State?

The ability to work different events. Whether it is a concert, sporting event, or a student lead event it’s nice to meet people and experience different events.

Why do you serve?

I serve as a police officer because I care about helping people, protecting others, and making a difference in my community.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I spend a lot of time with my family and friends. I enjoy hiking and visiting national parks.

What’s your favorite thing about being a Buckeye?

My favorite thing about being a Buckeye is meeting other Buckeyes. No matter what state or country I’ve been in I have met someone who has either worked or attended Ohio State.
