Name? Rank?
Officer Kevin Krasa
How long have you been with OSUPD?
I am in my fourth year as an officer.
Where are you from, and how does that help shape who you are today?
Toledo, Ohio. Growing up in a midwestern city helped instill in me the importance of work ethic and responsibility from a young age. My first real job began in the summer of my 8th-grade year, and I have had a job ever since. Most of my family lives in the area still, and the thing they impressed upon me most was to never lose my faith and work hard at anything I do.
What inspired you to become an OSUPD officer?
I graduated from Ohio State in 2014. I majored in criminology and I worked for Student Safety Services my senior year. This role gave me an opportunity to work with the Ohio State Department of Public Safety as a student intern. My aunt is a police officer in Rossford, Ohio. She inspired me to become an officer, and I always wanted to come back to Ohio State to fulfill that dream.
What’s unique about policing at Ohio State?
University policing is unique on its own, and then you add in being apart of one of the largest universities in a large city. The university functions like its own city within the city. We are responsible for policing residence halls, academic buildings, and hospital buildings while also being a part of large-scale events like Ohio State football games and concerts. University policing allows opportunities to engage with the university staff and students through community policing.
Why do you serve?
I serve because I believe I was called to this job and I believe in protecting people and making a positive impact in my community. I loved going to school here, I love rooting for Ohio State sports teams and I love working here. The university has a part of my heart as I spent numerous years involved with it. I am blessed to do what I love (policing) at one of my favorite places (Ohio State).
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am a big family guy, so spending time with my family is the thing I enjoy doing the most with my free time. I love watching and playing sports. I really enjoy traveling and have been blessed to have visited 13 countries so far. I enjoy working out and being in warm weather. Faith is also a large part of my life, and I enjoy being a part of my church family.
What’s your favorite thing about being a Buckeye?
My favorite thing about being a Buckeye is the sense of pride and community that comes with being a part of The Ohio State University. I am just very blessed to be serving my community and this university in this capacity.
