This spring break, soak up the sun, not the stress, and keep your personal safety shining bright. If you’re celebrating, please do so responsibly and be respectful of those around you.
If you’re traveling, make safety a priority. The following tips can help protect your home and your belongings while you’re away:
- Lock all doors and windows.
- Leave on outdoor lights and consider adding smart plugs or safety timers for indoor lights.
- Take items of value home, including money, credit cards and IDs.
- Record serial numbers of your devices.
- Disconnect electrical extensions.
- Stop mail service and have a neighbor collect packages while you are away.
If you’re staying on campus, make sure everyone uses their BuckID to swipe into residence halls and do not allow tailgaters. If you see something suspicious, report it to University Police by calling 614-292-2121. Off-campus, contact the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4545. Always dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.
The Office of Student Life’s Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement offers free window and door alarms to help increase home security. Simple deterrence tools can make a big difference in preventing crime. Students can also take advantage of the Lyft Ride Smart program or use free CABS On-Demand for a safe late-night ride.
Let’s help all Buckeyes have a safe and memorable spring break by looking out for ourselves and each other.
