The Ohio State University has made an interim update to its Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) / drone policy to make all university property a no-fly zone without prior authorization.
This change is being made to enhance safety – not to prohibit research or other academic uses. Like in the past, all drone operators must receive prior approval through the established UAS/drone preapproval process to fly on campus, and all requests must be submitted two weeks in advance of the event. The university reserves the right to deny any request. Any person found flying a UAS/drone on university property without authorization is subject to penalty.
Please review Ohio State’s UAS Policy for additional information.
The interim policy moves oversight from the Office of Academic Affairs to the Office of Administration and Planning. Following this interim update, the policy will be posted for university-wide feedback before being updated permanently.
