Name? Rank?
Adrienne Ward, Officer
How long have you been with OSUPD?
Three years
Where are you from and how does that help shape who you are today?
I was born in Lorain, Ohio up by Lake Erie which is a pretty diverse city. I went to Clearview High School with kids from all different backgrounds. I'd say growing up in Lorain allowed me to experience the world from many points of view which in turn has helped me be open-minded and empathetic.
What inspired you to become an OSUPD officer?
Before I was an OSUPD officer, I was a State Trooper for five years. I graduated from Ohio State, so it was always the goal to come back "home". While I was a student, I worked for the Department of Public Safety as a Student Campus Service Officer and provided rides home to members of the university. OSUPD was just right down the hall, and I always admired the OSUPD officers and respected the way they carried themselves. I knew I wanted to be a part of that group. The opportunity arose to transfer to Ohio State and here I am!
What’s unique about policing at Ohio State?
Policing at Ohio State is unique in so many ways. Often, when we interact with students, it's their first encounter with the police. I like to take the time talking with the students to build a positive connection so that they have the confidence and trust us to come to the police in the future.
Why do you serve?
I graduated from Ohio State in 2014. I enjoy getting the chance to meet so many people from all over the world. I take pride in protecting and giving back to the community I called home for four years. The experiences I've had while being an OSUPD officer can only be had at Ohio State. From working concerts to sporting events, there is always something to look forward to.
What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, working out, spending time with my partner, Caitlin, and playing fetch with my black Labrador, Goose.
What’s your favorite part about being a Buckeye?
I love the sense of community I feel when I'm here. From being a student to being an employee, there's just something about the university that makes me feel like I'm accepted and that I belong here. I'm always proud to say I work for The Ohio State University. Go Bucks!
