Behind the Badge: Lieutenant Bruce Allen

Name? Rank?

Bruce Allen, Lieutenant

How long have you been with OSUPD?

Eight years.

Where are you from and how does that help shape who you are today?

I was born and raised in Columbus, OH. I attended Northland High School, which was very diverse. I think growing up around people from different backgrounds has helped me connect with all kinds of people and be a better police officer.

What inspired you to become an OSUPD officer?

I’m an Ohio State alumnus! I graduated from Ohio State with an undergraduate degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies in 2013. I was also a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band for four years. My grandpa, mother, brother, and wife all attended Ohio State. The time my family and I spent as students here was very meaningful and I just felt a connection to the University.

What’s unique about policing at Ohio State?

No two days are alike in police work, and this is especially true at Ohio State. Our activity ranges from assisting unhoused individuals and helping students, to hosting U.S. Presidential visits. There are also a few days in the fall where 100,000+ people come to watch some good football (and marching bands 😊).

Why do you serve?

I serve because everyone deserves to feel safe and be treated with respect. I police how I want and expect my family be policed.

What do you do in your free time?

In my free time I like to workout, play Pokémon Go, and hang out with my cats.

What’s your favorite part about being a Buckeye?

I really enjoy the energy around campus, especially at the start of the academic year. The passion and excitement of incoming students motivates me. I also enjoy being a part of special events that we host on campus.
