The Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD) welcomed five new officers, James Bass, Calvin Cabarrus, Amanda Crowe, Megan Hale and Katie Demi, to the division with a pinning ceremony on July 26, 2024.
“We’re excited to welcome these five exceptional officers to the division just in time to also welcome students back to campus for fall semester,” said Deputy Chief Eric Whiteside.
Bass was born and raised in Columbus and completed the Columbus Police Academy in January 2022. For the last two years, he has worked as a senior security officer at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Born in New Jersey and raised in West Virginia, Cabarrus served in the United States Marine Corps for 15 years as a radio operator then a transmission chief. He was also a deputy sheriff for the Franklin Country Sheriff’s Office and most recently worked at Mount Carmel Hospital as an armed security officer.
Crowe is a born and raised Buckeye as she graduated from Ohio State prior to graduating from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy in January 2023. She served in the United States Navy as a master at arms for four years and most recently worked at the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Born in Ohio, Hale graduated from Sinclair Community College with two associates degrees - one in law enforcement and the other in corrections. She also earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin University. Hale has worked for Columbus State Community College as a police officer since 2012.
Demi, another returning Buckeye, earned her master’s degree at Ohio State in sports coaching before working for Ohio State Athletics. She then worked as an alarm and video monitor for the Communications and Security Technology Division at Ohio State. Demi also belongs to the Buckeye Paws therapy dog program working with golden retrievers.
These officers will spend the next 14weeks training with field officers before being assigned to solo patrol.
