OSUPD Partners with USG to Light Up the Night

How to protect your bike

More than 100 sets of bicycle locks, lights and safety devices were handed out by The Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD) officers and partners during the Light Up the Night event at the Buckeye Bike Hub on Thursday evening.

“OSUPD is happy to be donating bike lights and locks to students,” said OSUPD Lt. Bruce Allen. “Anything we can do to engage with fellow Buckeyes and amplify awareness about safety resources across campus is exciting for us.”

From free food and drinks to a bicycle sale and bike safety checks, Light up the Night, held by Undergrad Student Government (USG), was aimed to not only distribute safety equipment but also to elevate the overall student experience.

“Student safety is our top priority,” said Lt. Allen. “If you missed the event but are interested in utilizing our free resources, we continue to offer complimentary safety devices from personal safety alarms to home devices. Be sure to stop by Ohio Union to pick them up.”

Bike theft, and theft in general, is one of the most common crimes on campus. Police advise securing bikes with U-Locks rather than cable locks, not leaving valuables unattended and always to report stolen items by calling 614-292-2121.
