Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

OSUPD Partners with Journalism Professor to Host Mock Crime Scene

Journalism students in Nicole Kraft’s class were put to the test during a mock crime scene scenario, thanks to a partnership with The Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD).

“After they graduate they’re going to be working with us all the time so this is a great opportunity for them and also us to practice interacting with journalists and press conferences,” said OSUPD Lt. Bruce Allen. “ We try to make a realistic scenario for them, so they get a hands-on training during this session with their class.”

Lt. Allen and his colleagues set up a mock crime scene outside of Blankenship Hall to simulate a real crime. Complete with several press conferences and multiple ‘actors,’ students were tasked with gathering information from the scene and online sources to write stories in a timely manner.

OSUPD partners with Kraft, an Ohio State journalism professor, once a semester to put the exciting activity on for students.
