Halloween Safety Tips

This Halloween weekend, keep the costumes spooky but take your personal safety serious. If you celebrate, please do so responsibly and be respectful neighbors. Police recommend sticking with your friends. If you go out together, come home together.

On campus, make everyone use their Buck ID to swipe into residence halls and do not allow tailgaters. If you see something suspicious, report it to University Police by calling 614-292-2121. Off-campus, call the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4545. Always dial 9-1-1 in emergencies.

For off-campus homes, students should lock doors and windows and keep lights on, especially at night. Make sure roommates take keys with them rather than leaving your home unsecured. Avoid walking alone, especially at night. The Office of Student Life’s Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services offers students free window and door alarms and light timers to increase their home security. Deterrence tools can play a big role in helping to prevent crimes. Access to the devices is easy. Students fill out a simple form and arrange a time to pick up the devices at the Ohio Union. Students can also use the Lyft Ride Smart program or free CABS On-Demand for late-night rides.
