Nationwide Emergency Alert Test

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide emergency alert test on October 4. During this time, wireless emergency alerts (WEA) compatible cell phones will receive a test message. This is not a Buckeye Alert, but many students, faculty and staff will receive the test message. The text will say “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”Radios and televisions will also receive the test. The test is intended to ensure public safety officials have the methods and systems that will deliver urgent alerts and warnings to the public in times of an emergency or disaster. A back-up testing date is scheduled for October 11.
