Every year during the second week of April during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we honor telecommunications personnel working in the public safety community.
“These women and men of the emergency communication center work in a very stressful environment, often handling calls and aiding our community who are possibly having their worst day.” said Satoru Persons, director of Communications and Security Technology for public safety. “It is an honor to work with such dedicated professionals who help our Ohio State community each day.”
The Ohio State University Department of Public Safety has seven 911 telecommunicators, five alarm and video monitors (AVMs), seven student AVMs and six Communication Center supervisors. The team is available 24/7, 365 days a year, working around the clock to keep the campus community safe.
“We have more than 4,000 cameras on campus,” said Madison Boeh, student AVM. “We work really well together to make sure everyone stays safe.”
OSUPD Lieutenant Alan Horujko explained how crucial telecommunicators are to the police division.
“We couldn’t do our job without them. They provide us all real-time information, updates, safety information, they get us rolling where we need to go in a timely manner and help us protect the overall campus.”
