Campus Service Officers (CSO) are an extra set of eyes and ears trained to help keep the campus community safe. CSOs report suspicious activity so police can respond as needed. The non-sworn positions are performed by student staff who work in pairs to patrol on and off campus in marked vehicles. In the past, these types of roles have led students to pursue a career in law enforcement. Interested students can earn $13 an hour. Apply Online!
Last fall, President Kristina M. Johnson announced an additional $2 million, per year, for the next 10 years to expand on the $35 million per year that Ohio State spends on safety. Part of that additional money was earmarked to expand the Campus Service Officer program and Ohio State's Department of Public Safety continues to recruit, train and hire these positions.
In addition, Ohio State has:
- Hired additional sworn police officers
- Added other non-sworn security patrols off campus like the Buckeye Block Watch
- Added permanent lights off campus
- Added License Plate Reader (LPR) cameras and surveillance cameras both on and off-campus.
