On Saturday, Sept. 11, the university issued three Buckeye Alert messages containing initial witness information regarding a shooting incident that was reported to police. At approximately 5:20 p.m., police responded to the incident in front of Drinko Hall, near the intersection of N. High Street and Chittenden Avenue.
A female was walking south from W. 12th Avenue along the campus side of High Street with four friends. As she walked past a bus shelter near Drinko Hall, the victim heard a loud bang or gun shot. She looked down at her right leg because she felt pain and observed her leg bleeding. The victim, who is the parent of an Ohio State student, received medical aid from bystanders until law enforcement and medics arrived. She was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
There was no interaction between the victim and an assailant, but several witnesses observed two men immediately run from the scene who are now persons of interest. The Ohio State University Police Division is actively investigating. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 614-292-2121.
