Stay Safe, Buckeyes

Welcome back, Buckeyes. Safety has many different meanings, from physical security to a sense of belonging. At Ohio State, the Department of Public Safety and its police division are committed to supporting all students, faculty and staff. Ohio State’s police and security are here to help, and the university offers many resources to enhance your safety and well-being.

Every person plays a role in enhancing their own safety. This year, there are four areas we all should focus on:

  • Personal Safety – Travel in groups when possible or use public transportation. Remove earbuds and be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. Use crosswalks, and always keep safety in mind.
  • Staying Safe at Home – Lock your doors and windows and report suspicious behavior to law enforcement. Do not let unknown people inside and never leave valuables in your car.
  • Socializing Safely – Party smart and look out for your fellow Buckeyes. Be an active bystander and help everyone feel welcome and respected.
  • Health and Wellness – Follow all health and safety guidelines. The university encourages everyone to get vaccinated.

Report on-campus crimes or suspicious behavior to University Police (614-292-2121) and off-campus incidents to Columbus Police (614-645-4545) or local law enforcement. Always dial 9-1-1 in emergencies.

Your safety is our top priority. Please take a moment to learn more about how to report a crime, where to go for support services and how to access tools that can enhance your safety.
