Holiday Safety Message

We want to remind our campus community to prioritize safety during the holiday season. AAA projects that 48.7 million Americans will travel this week, so please take precautions on roadways and utilize the below tips before you depart:

  • Lock your doors and windows
  • Disconnect electrical extensions
  • Take items of value with you
  • Record serial numbers of your devices
  • Do not leave money, credit cards or ID in your home/room

For those celebrating on or near campus this year, our public safety team will have a visible presence as it remains a busy week with the game and other events. If you see something, say something. Report suspicious behavior to University Police by calling 614-292-2121 (on campus) or 9-1-1 in emergencies. Off-campus, you can call Columbus Police at 614-645-4545.

Please celebrate responsibly, and if you plan to drink alcohol, appoint a designated driver or companion and value the decisions of those who do not wish to drink. If you see a friend who has had too much to drink, please ask for help by contacting our Department of Public Safety. The Student Safety Service Safe Ride program will be closed Nov. 24 and Nov. 25 but will be available the remainder of the week by calling 614-292-3322.

Wherever you may be, as always, we encourage you to use sidewalks and crosswalks and avoid walking alone, especially at night. Our security presence is here to help, so please cooperate with us and our city partners so we can be of assistance.

The safety of our campus is our number one priority, and we hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.
