Bussard makes changes for health and wellness

Over the past two years, health and wellness has taken on a new level of importance for Margaret Bussard, security manager for the Department of Public Safety. Since 2015, Bussard has lost two of her 10 siblings to health issues.

“It made me think more about what I’m doing and what I could do differently,” Bussard said.

Bussard started making small changes in her life and those changes have evolved into a consistent regimen. Three days a week she hits the gym before work. After lunch each day, weather permitting, Bussard walks the parking lot around Blankenship Hall and the Adventure Recreation Center, which measures about a quarter-of-a-mile.

“I move better and I have more energy,” Bussard said of her new routine.

“It just contributes to a better mindset throughout the day.”

Bussard is also trying to positively influence others of her department, becoming a Buckeye Wellness Innovator 12 months ago. Since that time, she has helped recruit Department of Public Safety teams that have participated in University sponsored Buckeye Wellness events like “Amazing Race to Wellness” and “Take a Walk With the Buckeyes.”

“Anything I can do that can help someone else is going to be for the greater good for the Department of Public Safety,” Bussard said.
