You are receiving this notice because a crime has occurred that is considered to be of a concern and/or a continuing threat to the campus community.
The purpose of this message is to heighten your safety awareness by providing community members with information necessary to take appropriate precautions, enable you to take actions to help increase your safety, and to aid in the prevention of similar crimes.
The Ohio State University Police Division received a report at 2:19 a.m. on 8-26-12 from a female student of an armed robbery that occurred on campus in the area of Hitchcock Hall (2070 Neil Ave). The suspect was described as a black male, 5’8”, late 30’s-early 40’s, short hair, wearing a dark, baggy shirt and dark jeans. The suspect fled eastbound from the scene.
The Columbus Police Division received a report of an armed robbery attempt in the University District (off campus) by a similar suspect a short while later in the area of East 16th Avenue and North High Street.
During the past week, the Columbus Police Division also received a report of an armed robbery in the University District (off campus) in the area of East 16th Avenue and Waldeck Avenue on 8-23-12 at 12:30 a.m.
While there is no direct indication that the crimes are related, they do suggest an ongoing concern for public safety in the University area.
