Ohio State is a safe place. Located in the middle of a large city, however, crimes do still occur. If you become the victim of a crime, go to a safe place and report it to police by dialing 9-1-1. Take note of the suspect’s direction of travel and clothing. OSUPD’s Lt. Marjorie Rizalvo discusses these tips and more in this week’s brief Safety Spotlight video.
Lyft Ride Smart at Ohio State is expanding hours for a second time as Ohio State continues to offer safety enhancements on and off campus. Service will now start earlier each day, and run from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., seven days a week. The program offers eligible students discounted rides, inside the university-designated service area, including into the Short North. Sign up online.
The force of an elbow jab is powerful enough to fend off an attacker and allow you time to run to safety. OSUPD’s Officer Cassi Shaffer, one of Ohio State’s Empowerment and Self-Defense instructors, teaches a self-defense technique called “Front Elbow” in this week’s Safety Spotlight. Watch this short video to learn how to use your elbow as an additional line of defense during an attack.
Whether you live on or off campus, safety should always be a priority. Never let unknown persons into your home. On campus, prevent “tailgating” into residence halls by making sure individuals behind you use their own BuckID for entrance. In this week’s Safety Spotlight, OSUPD’s Lt. Marjorie Rizalvo discusses what you can do to add another layer of security to your home.
